Making a Magazine Cover - Task 2

Image
To tackle task two of my computer in arts and design project I had to look at creating a fashion magazine which is original and incorporates a range of different skills I have looked at throughout the year. I started by looking at designing a fashion magazine to help me explore the look I would follow throughout the rest of the magazine. Something I thought would be beneficial prior to designing was to look at successful magazine covers and pick out key elements and analyze what I like about them. I tried to look at a range of magazines all of which have a different attachment to me. I looked at a magazine cover I actually own and discussed what it was that captured my attention, a magazine cover I would look at and gravitate towards, and a magazine that isn't my usual read however I would give it a go due to its look.  After doing some research I definitely got a sense of the style of the magazine I was drawn too. Simplistic and colorful magazines are something I particularly like...

My Tips to Add Colour Into Your Wardrobe

Image
With the constantly changing fast fashion of the 21 st century, it’s hard to pick a defined style that you like, when what’s trendy changes each week. As much as I like to feel comfortable in my clothes, I also like to consider myself as an experimental person, when it comes to fashion. Thanks to the likes of social media and high street fashion, there are hundreds of styles for me to choose from. Some of the most popular this year being the “vsco” style - where pastel colours come to play - and “insta baddie” style, where bold, neon colours take centre stage. This was tricky for me as my previous wardrobe consisted purely of neutral colours with a few different washes of denim to accompany them in my casual college outfits. It wasn’t that I was scared of colour, just that white was my favourite, and I love a versatile outfit so I strayed away from any bold patterns or colours. But I have been more open to the idea of adding colour and have produced this simple structure to help ease ...

Adobe Illustrator

Image
Something I've wanted to do for a long time is branch out with my skill and knowledge of adobe software. So, to begin with, I looked at adobe illustrator, my knowledge of this software was very limited so I wanted to document what I learned here on my blog! To begin with, you have to understand the idea that there are two graphic types; Pixel and Vector.  Pixel, also know as raster or bitmap, is a graphic type that is made up of individually coloured pixels. this is the most common form of graphic type you will find. When you take a photo using a digital camera you are creating a bitmap graphic, this is useful as you can edit each individual pixel. The problem is that when you resize a bitmap image, you can begin to lose fidelity and the image can become blurry or pixelated.  Vector graphics are a graphical representation of mathematical equations referred to as 'objects' and does not use pixels. Vectors are created in software such as adobe illustrator and ...

Theory Behind Branding

Something we have been looking at in my recent computer in art and design class is social media branding and how it can help businesses. The power of social media can benefit a small and growing business in a number of positive ways, it can help by: driving traffic to a businesses website improving your SEO (search engine optimization) allowing you to engage with your community and audience strengthing customers relationships with that brand and lastly, keeping pace with the competition for free But, with a range of different options on which social media platform you can use, it’s hard to understand which platform would be best for you and your purpose. Being a young adult in the 21st century, it’s hard to establish which platforms I should be on and actively using to help boost my career and fulfil my love for social media. I wanted to use this post to breakdown some of the popular sites and how they could benefit a business: Twitter  can be...

Postcards Created in InDesign

Image
Something I have been researching during quarantine is how to use InDesign and the features that are within it. Adobe Indesign is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, etc. Today I was experimenting with creating postcards and familiarising myself with the software. The sizings that I used for my postcards are 3.5 by 5 inches and for each one I designed a front and a back. The first step of the process is to use the rectangle frame tool and select the space you are inserting your image into.  Press ctlr - d and you will be brought up with the place screen. In this, you need to select the image you wish to use and size it to how you want. Something to note here is that InDesign takes the finished product and simply lays it out in a design. To make any changes you would have to go into photoshop or any other adobe software.  Next, create a new pag...

Things To Do During Quarantine

Image
With events being cancelled, the college's being shut down and the whole of England being put into Quarantine I've been thinking a lot about what I can do to stop myself from going crazy while being coped up in my room all day. And I'm sure I'm not the only student who’s thinking the same thing. It’s really important that we take the quarantine seriously however we can still be productive and make the best of the situation, which is why I've created: Tilly’s list of things to do during quarantine, when she’s hopefully not ill, to stop herself from being bored and to make sure she isn’t going crazy in her little bubble. I know, it has a nice ring to it! Please Note: while searching for inspiration of things to include in my list I came across a number of articles which alluded of straight-up suggested: "text all your exes, just in case you have one more thing you wanted to get off your chest". No. Let’s not bring negativity into what's alread...

Attending My First Ever Kilo Sale !

During my research into sustainable fashion, I have found myself becoming angry and frustrated with the waste and damage the fashion industry is creating. As a young fashion student and a lover of the planet I live on, I think it is important that we take responsibility for our actions. Did you know that fashion is the 2nd biggest polluter? Our constant 'want not need' mindset could possibly be the thing that finally tips our planet over the edge into destruction. I believe that if I can do anything through my social media platforms, and in-person, it is to educate others on the damage we are collectively causing. I am not saying that we should all stop buying clothes and never visit a shopping center again. Let’s be realistic - that isn't likely to happen, nor is it particularly sustainable. More to the point, I will probably lose my retail job that I love, and I would be devastated. However, we can start to think about the small changes we are able to make. For me, these...
