Something I've wanted to do for a long time is branch out with my skill and knowledge of adobe software. So, to begin with, I looked at adobe illustrator, my knowledge of this software was very limited so I wanted to document what I learned here on my blog! To begin with, you have to understand the idea that there are two graphic types; Pixel and Vector.  Pixel, also know as raster or bitmap, is a graphic type that is made up of individually coloured pixels. this is the most common form of graphic type you will find. When you take a photo using a digital camera you are creating a bitmap graphic, this is useful as you can edit each individual pixel. Something I have been researching during quarantine is how to use InDesign and the features that are within it. Adobe Indesign is a desktop publishing and typesetting software application. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, etc. Today I was experimenting with creating postcards and familiarising myself with the software. The sizings that I used for my postcards are 3.5 by 5 inches and for each one I designed a front and a back. The first step of the process is to use the rectangle frame tool and select the space you are inserting your image into.  Press ctlr - d and you will be brought up with the place screen. In this, you need to select the image you wish to use and size it to how you want. Something to note here is that InDesign takes the finished product and simply lays it out in a design. With events being cancelled, the college's being shut down and the whole of England being put into Quarantine I've been thinking a lot about what I can do to stop myself from going crazy while being coped up in my room all day. And I'm sure I'm not the only student who’s thinking the same thing. During my research into sustainable fashion, I have found myself becoming angry and frustrated with the waste and damage the fashion industry is creating. As a young fashion student and a lover of the planet I live on, I think it is important that we take responsibility for our actions. Did you know that fashion is the 2nd biggest polluter? Our constant 'want not need' mindset could possibly be the thing that finally tips our planet over the edge into destruction. I believe that if I can do anything through my social media platforms, and in-person, it is to educate others on the damage we are collectively causing. I am not saying that we should all stop buying clothes and never visit a shopping center again. Let’s be realistic - that isn't likely to happen, nor is it particularly sustainable. Something that I am finding myself looking into more and more recently is the impact of image manipulation. Image manipulation is where you take a starting image and change aspects and sections of it to create a different and edited effect. This is something that I think has impacted our generations a lot and especially with what we define as "beauty". When I scroll through my Instagram feed, I can see images posted by a number of influencers where they have perfectly smooth skin and each photo has aesthetically white and clean crisp backgrounds. Although I know that it's not the reality and I can realize that the image has been edited I do often find myself comparing to these images. Longing for the perfect skin and mesmerising lifestyle that I am regularly exposed to; However, that just isn't the reality. As a part of my natural packaging assignment, I recently took a trip to Kew Gardens to collect a range of pictures that I could use within my work as inspiration and secondary research. This was my first time to Kew Gardens but I was pleasantly surprised but the range of different plants they have around the garden. I was also able to take photographs of Dale Chihuly's amazing glass sculptures which were dotted around. The photos that I collected over the course of the day I am really pleased with so I wanted to share some of them on here, and obviously, I manage to sneak in a few shameless photos of me and my friends! Dale Chihuly's work captures colorful and mesmerizing glasswork that is set within nature to allow it to stand out more. He uses the outdoor environment as a gallery space that combines the idea of natural and manmade objects to create an " exaggerated celebration of what is found in nature".
