Letter To Myself

Dear me, Now, quarantine hasn’t brought many good things, but something it has allowed me to do is to have more time to think. For better or for worse I’m not sure yet, but I think this letter needs to be written. Whether this is to my future self or to compose my current feelings and to never be seen again, I’m not sure, but here are some things I need to take from quarantine and from this time where I have been able to just think. Firstly, be grateful. You have a strong network of loving family and friends who you constantly take for granted. I understand you find it hard to talk and stay in contact with people, and texting seems like the hardest task in the world sometimes, but these people will be there for you despite all of that. That’s what friends and family do. At times where you have felt alone you have to realise you’re far from it, and when someone asks how you are, don’t reply with “im fine” - unless you really, truly are. Think about others who might be in a similar s...

Final Outcome - Task 4

Image
These above are the final outcome of my magazine assignment. through the previous blog posts, I have talked about the experimentations that I created to get to these final outcomes but overall, I am happy with the work I have created.  To begin the process of creating these designs I had to come up with a name for the magazine. previously I was torn between two names which had very different styles. "The Bolder, The Better" and "Day Dreamer". One was a classic style magazine that you would find in the shops currently and the other being something new and different. I wanted to push myself in this assignment, so I chose to pursue the idea of "the bolder, the better". This was because I felt I could experiment with wilder designs and create visually interesting outcomes and I had a lot more freedom to create bold effects. It also pushed me out of my comfort zone. Embodying this bold and edgy fashion magazine designer forced me to think outside the box mo...

Making a Magazine Article - Task 3

Image
For my assignment, I had to write an article to be seen in my magazine. in the end, I wrote the article as seen on my blog called  "My tips to add color into your wardrobe" I felt as if it fit the theme of the magazine perfectly and would accompany the images I had well. Before I made this decision though I did some research into fashion magazines and articles that are inside them. I took the time to read and analyze a couple of them to get a picture of what type of article I am drawn to and the feature I should add or avoid.  These were interesting to read analytically as it is not usually the terms that I read a fashion magazine in. But it was interesting to see the things I did and didn't like. I came up with a number of things I want my article to contain. Firstly I want it to be meaningful content, a lot of fashion brands nowadays pay companies to promote and advertise their products and this makes the article seem disingenuous. I don't want to create content lik...

Making a Layout Design - Task 3

Image
For task 3 of my assignment, I have to make a magazine article and a spread to put into my magazine. The content of my article has to be relevant to the publication of my magazine and consistent with the overall theme of the magazine. This is an opportunity for me to solidify the "brand" I'm trying to create and experiment with photography, type design, and layout design. To start this section of the assignment I decided to look at a couple of layout designs and analyze what I like and dislike to gain inspiration and direction of what I would like to produce.  The research portion was really helpful in identifying what I like and dislike in a layout. I chose designs that were similar to the style of my front cover but also caught my attention and inspired me. I think I picked a good range to analyze and I have gained a good insight into aspects I should incorporate into mine such as different fonts and colors and image styles. I decided, similar to my front cover design, ...

Making a Magazine Cover - Task 2

Image
To tackle task two of my computer in arts and design project I had to look at creating a fashion magazine which is original and incorporates a range of different skills I have looked at throughout the year. I started by looking at designing a fashion magazine to help me explore the look I would follow throughout the rest of the magazine. Something I thought would be beneficial prior to designing was to look at successful magazine covers and pick out key elements and analyze what I like about them. I tried to look at a range of magazines all of which have a different attachment to me. I looked at a magazine cover I actually own and discussed what it was that captured my attention, a magazine cover I would look at and gravitate towards, and a magazine that isn't my usual read however I would give it a go due to its look.  After doing some research I definitely got a sense of the style of the magazine I was drawn too. Simplistic and colorful magazines are something I particularly like...

My Tips to Add Colour Into Your Wardrobe

Image
With the constantly changing fast fashion of the 21 st century, it’s hard to pick a defined style that you like, when what’s trendy changes each week. As much as I like to feel comfortable in my clothes, I also like to consider myself as an experimental person, when it comes to fashion. Thanks to the likes of social media and high street fashion, there are hundreds of styles for me to choose from. Some of the most popular this year being the “vsco” style - where pastel colours come to play - and “insta baddie” style, where bold, neon colours take centre stage. This was tricky for me as my previous wardrobe consisted purely of neutral colours with a few different washes of denim to accompany them in my casual college outfits. It wasn’t that I was scared of colour, just that white was my favourite, and I love a versatile outfit so I strayed away from any bold patterns or colours. But I have been more open to the idea of adding colour and have produced this simple structure to help ease ...
